The light i carry

Some paths reveal themselves only to those willing to bring their own light.

There are paths that only appear once we are willing to take the first step into the unknown.

Photographed while camping in Niger State, this image was built around a simple play of colour. The blue light of the torch cuts through the darkness, creating a sense of safety, while the reds and oranges surrounding it suggest danger. At the bottom of the frame, the green of the tent becomes a small refuge in the middle of the forest.

At the time, the region was known for incidents of kidnapping, making the act of walking into the darkness feel very real. The photo became a reflection of something I have understood from a young age. Fortune favours the bold. Sometimes, you have to carry your own light before you can discover where the path leads.

And sometimes, the path you create becomes a road for someone else to follow.

FACT
A few hours after I left the location, a kidnapping occurred not too far from where I had pitched my tent.
