Where wonder lives
A child found shelter where the world expected only stone.
Scale can change the way we understand a place.
In this image, a child occupies the foreground while an unusual structure, the fortress-like Hotel Yasmina sits at the foot of a rocky hill behind him. The foreground figure gives the viewer an entry point into the larger landscape, allowing the eye to move from the child towards the unexpected structure beyond.
The image plays with the idea that exploration often rewards us with things we did not expect to find.
The world is much larger than our assumptions about it.
Sometimes wonder is simply what happens when we look beyond what we thought we would see.
FACT
A few years ago, the sheer power of nature manifested in a massive, terrifying rockfall. Giant slabs of the cliffside suddenly broke loose and came crashing down onto the canyon floor, crushing parts of the hotel.
