The crossing within

In the middle of a busy London street, an elderly woman rests against a pole while younger cyclists pass behind her.

Everything around her appears to be moving. She does not.

Her posture and expression carry a quiet sense of peace, creating a contrast between the speed of the city and the stillness of the subject. Hard sunlight isolates her from the surrounding scene, while the monochrome treatment strips the image of distractions.

The image became less about the crossing outside her and more about the one that had already happened within her.

Perhaps there comes a point when we stop rushing to the other side.
