Enduring light

There is something moving about a place that once mattered and now stands quietly waiting to be discovered.

This ruined castle beside a river in Lamberton Skerrs, Scotland, caught my attention because of the contrast between its fallen state and the beauty surrounding it. The structure remains, but its purpose has disappeared.

I began to think about the places, cultures and experiences that slowly fade when there is no one left to notice them.

Perhaps ruins are not only reminders of what has been lost. Perhaps they are invitations to look again.

FUN FACT
Though the Smuggler’s Bothy was unfortunately gutted by vandals in a fire, you can still view the stone ruins alongside a heavily rusted, decades-old net winch sitting right on the rocks. The area is also an excellent vantage point for spotting local wildlife like Peregrine Falcons and Slow Worms
