Another way across

Not every distance can be crossed by a bridge.

This photograph, made at Lamberton Skerrs in Scotland, continues an idea explored in my previous Building Bridges exhibition: that boats can become bridges of their own. When a physical connection does not exist, we often find another way to move forward.

The diagonal line across the frame separates the sea from the land, while the small boat sits quietly in the upper corner. Its size against the landscape gives the image a sense of possibility. There is always another way across.

Sometimes that means leaving what is familiar, seeing what exists beyond our immediate surroundings, and learning enough to eventually build a bridge of our own.
